Wow, its been busy weeks. I’ll have some of the logo designs I’ve been working on recently up to share soon, but for now, I figured I’d share a little about this past Friday.
Recently I met this really cool gal named Brit who needed some photos taken. She’d done the whole professional photo thing before, but after a somewhat recent encounter with Christ, the old photos had sort of a negative emotional connection to them for her, harkening to a different time prior to where she is now. The story strikes a chord. So we set up a shoot so she’d have something a little more current.
A sunrise shoot seemed entirely appropriate. Not only is the morning light amazing, but considering the whole purpose for the shoot, capturing Brittany at the birth of a new day just seemed right. Picking up the metaphors I’m laying down?
Enjoy these shots. After the sunrise we then drove around, shot some in Richmond and here in the Studio. Good times all around.
Wow, so yesterday my AlienBees ABR800 Ring Flash showed up, and a bevy of experimentation ensued. I’m really looking forward to using this with some actual subjects that aren’t what I have immediately available (ie, Jerry and I), but for now, I’m pretty happy. Seems that should be soon though as I have a couple shoots coming up this weekend. Good times. See example shots below, but sorry I look mean in them. I was concentrating on getting the remote to work. Sigh…
In other news, I also had my first stab at creating framed art to sell. If you go to the sites homepage and see the image of The National, that’s the one I used. I had it printed at 12×24 in a black frame with a white matte. It’s currently hanging in my own living room, but I’m hoping to make more of these and sell them framed and all for around $250 I think. Any takers?
So, about a month ago, I complained about how I wasn’t doing this enough: posting that is. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a long hiatus before revisiting the blog. My bad.
But it HAS been a busy month. I’ve shot a wedding, a few concerts, had the camera handy at a wedding I was the bestman at, and even shot a helicopter dropping Easter eggs on a field waiting to be plundered by kids of all shapes and sizes.
Each of these shoots brought with them various thoughts about the event itself as well as where I am as a photographer. And THIS is why I need to blog more regularly. I have no idea how to organize any of these thoughts into a readable situation right now.
But all this to say: photos were taken, further ideas were hatched, and amidst it all I encountered work online that’s really challenging to up my game. Not that it’s bad from an artistic/photojournalistic perspective right now, but I want more images that pop. Like really pop. Like read this blog and forward it to your friends because the stuff you’re seeing is blowing your mind, pop.
I don’t think I’m there yet. Maybe its pretentious to think I’ll ever be there. But I’m going to keep trying. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy all of these from the past month…
